Moving towards lower-emission transport.
Our sustainability programme focuses on reducing fuel use and emissions across the national company fleet. We've set clear targets, we're improving how we operate and measuring our progress so we can show what’s changing over time.
Fuel use
43.3L/100kmdown 7.3% from 46.7 in 2021
Fleet fuel intensity, 2025
Emissions efficiency
656g CO₂e/dvkmdown 4.5% from 687 in 2021
Emissions per delivered vehicle-km, 2025
Engine idling
14.8%down 4.1 percentage points from 18.9% in 2021
Share of engine running time spent idling, 2025
Total fleet emissions
20,082tCO₂edown 6.5% from 21,472 in 2021
Scope 1 fleet emissions, 2025
We're using less fuel to do the same work.
Lower is better.

Total fleet emissions
Tracked annually
- 2021
- 21,472 tCO₂e

- 20,082 tCO₂e
Total emissions rise and fall with the amount of freight we move, so we don't set a target on the total. Annual totals for every year are in the full report.
What we’re doing.
- 01
Electric vehicles in our fleet
Battery electric heavy vehicles are now part of our fleet, giving us real-world experience of where electric transport works best in our operation.
- 02
Smarter loads and routing
Improving how vehicles are loaded and routed, so more freight moves with fewer unnecessary kilometres.
- 03
Reducing unnecessary idling
Helping drivers cut unnecessary engine running through better visibility, feedback and coaching.
Lower emissions for every vehicle we deliver.
Grams of CO₂e for each customer vehicle or machine moved one kilometre. Lower is better.

How we measure.
We start with the diesel our fleet uses and convert it to emissions using official New Zealand government factors. We then compare fuel and emissions against the work the fleet does, so we can see whether we're getting more efficient.
The complete data series, including annual total fleet emissions and the activity data behind every figure.
- Method
- NZ Ministry for the Environment fuel-based calculation method, with reference to the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard
- Emission factors
- 2.681 kg CO₂e per litre of diesel (NZ Ministry for the Environment), applied to every year for a consistent comparison
- Boundary
- National fleet operations across PTS Logistics and Auto Logistics
- Included
- Scope 1: fleet diesel
- Delivered vehicle-km
- A way of measuring how much freight we move: one customer vehicle or machine moved one kilometre. Moving eight vehicles 100 km equals 800 delivered vehicle-km.
